What brought about the Dark Ages?

Lack of branding?
Lack of financing?
Lack of ideas?

I doubt it.

I believe, more today than ever, that the Dark Ages were brought about by:
Settling for Mediocrity.
Tunnel Vision.
Listening to the selfish advisers.
Beheading the heretics that history proves had it right all along.

Was it the King that brought it about? No. It was the Kings' thousand advisers.
